BEGINNER GUIDE · 4 MIN READ

Your first game starts
with one move.

A comfortable starting point: a compact, untimed game against the on-device computer.

1. Choose a small starting point

From Home, start a local game against the computer. Choose the compact board and an untimed game. You can also take turns with a friend on the same device. No app account is required for either.

2. Read one board, then its neighbours

Begin in the flat view. The compact game has four 4×4 spaces, all belonging to one position. Focus on a board to inspect it, then look at the other spaces before deciding. Changing views does not change the game.

3. Select a piece and inspect its destinations

Choose a piece of the side whose turn it is and look at the legal destinations shown by the app. A move may cross from one space into another. A familiar-looking move can still be illegal when it leaves your king in check.

4. Use Quick helper

With move rehearsal enabled in an untimed game, examine a candidate before choosing Play move. A preview does not commit the move. Quick helper is free; the Full helper walkthrough of a possible reply is part of Plus.

5. Revisit the interesting moment

After playing, use replay to return to a move you did not expect. Ask which coordinate changed and which piece became attacked. Learning one connection is a useful result even when you lose the game.
